Browsing

You can browse photos by folder, category, search criteria—or directly on your camera. Choose Browse by Folder (⌘4), by Category (⌘5), by Search Criteria (⌘6), or by Camera (⌘7). Or, click one of the Browse toolbar buttons.

You can add any folder, category or search to your favorites. The favorites are shown in the left-most column of the browser, as well as in the Favorites menu.

The Browse menu lets you go back and forth in your history.

Choose View Refresh (⌘R) to update the displayed photos.

  Folder

The folder browser shows a view of your hard disk, just like in the Finder. When you click a folder, its subfolders are displayed in the next column, and its files are displayed in the viewer.

Using the Filter menu, you can choose whether to show just the photos in the selected folder (the default), or photos in all subfolders.

Choose Browse Up (⌘↑) to browse the enclosing folder.

Double-click a folder in the browser to open it in the Finder.

Click the button next to a folder in the Info window to go to that folder in the browser.

  Category

The category browser works just like the folder browser, except it shows your categories. When you click a category, its subcategories are displayed in the next column, and its files are displayed in the viewer.

Each category in the browser has a minature progress bar that shows the number of photos in the category. This makes it easy to see which categories have a lot of photos. (The scale is logarithmic, with each pixel representing twice as many photos.)

Using the Filter menu, you can choose whether to show just the photos in the selected category, or photos in all subcategories (the default).

The Categories window provides another view of the categories hierarchy. You can use it to create and edit categories, to and assign photos to them. Double-click a category in the browser to reveal it in the Categories outline.

Choose Browse Up (⌘↑) to browse the enclosing category. For example, if you are looking at frogs, this command will show you all amphibians.

Click the button next to a category in the Categories outline or the Info window to go to that category in the browser.

In the Categories preferences, you can choose whether the window's title bar should show the full path of the selected category, or just its name.

  Search

You can search for photos by category, date, person, place, thing, rating, or file name.

  Camera

You can view the contents of your camera, and download photos to your computer.
